Craig Newmark, the 71-year-old retired founding father of Craigslist, has four focus areas for philanthropy: army households and vets, cybersecurity, journalism, and pigeon rescue.
On Wednesday, he pledged $100 million to assist U.S. cybersecurity, bringing his whole giving and pledges to $400 million since 2015.

In response to the Wall Street Journal, Newmark has already dedicated over 20% of the $100 million pledge to organizations and tasks round cybersecurity. Widespread Sense Media, for instance, received $2 million to assist efforts like a cybersecurity consciousness marketing campaign for fogeys and lecturers.
Newmark was worth $1.3 billion in 2020 and pledged to provide away almost all his wealth to charitable causes in December 2022. He informed the Journal that his giving was impressed by the Judaic idea of tikkun olam, Hebrew for “repairing the world.“
Newmark’s strategy is to find the right people, give them the assets they want, “after which get outta their means,” based on his philanthropy’s website. He does not give organizations who obtain grants necessities to hit sure targets.
